Dance Party and Show at Marco's Cafe
June 28; 6:30pm
One of our events that we have looked forward to most over the years has been our dance parties during the Summer at local hang-out, Marco's Cafe. It is where locals and tourists alike go for the best food, beer, wine, and ENTERTAINMENT during the Summer rafting season on the American River. This year our first party is going to be an extravaganza of exotic rhythms, swirling colors, and dynamic performances. Not only are the belly dancers showing up in full regalia, but Brazilian dancers and drummers are also sharing the beautiful culture of South America. This year is going to be a full experience: you will not only to be able to learn the dances and rhythms at Lotus D'Or Studios (see below), but also to apply what you've learned at the best party this side of the American River! Come share the joy with us...

Lotus D'Or Studios is proud to present incredible local talent from El Dorado County and Sacramento. On June 28th our local studio will have it's "D'Or" open all day, so stop in to take some fun classes guaranteed to make you smile & sweat! Not only will there be classes to take but vendors to satisfy the urge to shop. Peruse goodies from imported drums from Brasil to tribal jewelry from Uzbekistan as well as local artisans. But that's not all...don't miss our exciting after-party at Marco's Cafe!

Troy has been playing world percussion since childhood. He plays Brasilian percussion (Batucada) for such groups as Agua de Beber and Samba da Terra in Sacramento. He is a well-credentialed master percussionist with great expression and contagious energy! |

Our local instructor has been training in Capoeira and Angola for 10 years. He trains under the guidance of ContraMestre Galego of Grupo Agua de Beber Sacramento. He is currently teaching at Orr Brothers mixed martial arts academy in Placerville. Check him out rehearsing at our beautiful Henningsen Park in LOTUS! |

Afro-Brasilian Dance

...with Marta Santos
Marta is the director for Samba da Terra, Sacramento's premier samba troupe. She is a native from Bahia, Brazil and came to the United States in 2000 after teaching samba in Brasil for 10 years. Marta and her brother had a group of samba-reggae and participed in the Carnaval of Brazil with other famous groups from Bahia: OLODUM, ILE AYE, GANG DO SAMBA, HARMONIA DO SAMBA and more. Every year she represents the Samba Sacramento at the Carnival of San Francisco. Marta has been teaching samba in the Sacramento area for over 4 years and about 3 years ago she founded a group called SAMBA DA TERRA (Samba from our homeland). |

Namira of South Lake Tahoe in a special Sunday morning workshop!
Egyptian choreography!
SATURDAY, June 28th; 4:00-6:00; $25
The coveted choreography class...Namira with generously share the choreography to her performance captured on the DVD "By Dancers For Dancers, Vol. 3" to the song "Ya Bahaia"as performed on the "By Dancers For Dancers, Vol. 3" DVD. Students will be given a oppurtunity to learn Namira's techniques that make her dance style polished, dynamic, and exciting for audiences to watch.
Namira began her dancing career at age five when her Mother enrolled her in her first ballet class. She then continued her studies of classical ballet through out her life as well as Pointe, character ballet, pas de deux, jazz, Lyrical, Hip-hop, African, tap, Hawaiian, Tahitian, Latin styles, Flamenco, aerials, and gymnastics. Her first professional dance performance was at age twelve in a Polynesian revue. Namira dances and choreographs professionally for film, television, commercials, Broadway musicals, Las Vegas revues, conventions, restaurants, competitions, and private functions. Namira is featured on the "Tito's Show 2008" DVD, and on the soon to be released "By dancers for dancers Vol 3 or 4" DVD. In Feb. 2007, Namira traveled to Egypt to attend the 3rd Cairo Seminar "Dance of Egypt" with the legends Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy. Namira was one of 13 professional dancers and teachers selected to attend the program and receive international recognition and a teaching certificate in Egyptian dance. |
